This version of the Saint Seiya storyline takes place in the 18th century, 250 years before the story in the original series. Masami Kurumada (the author of the original Saint Seiya), supervised the creation of this alternate version of the Saint Seiya universe, but was not otherwise involved in it. The Lost Canvas centers on the relationship between Tenma, the Pegasus Saint, and his best friend, Aroon, who would eventually become his the feared Hades.
